Walking and Talking on E...

I herewith like to officially welcome myself, and you the reader, to my first blog!

And let me start with a very honest statement:
I am completely overwhelmed with technology and the various (and i mean VARIOUS) communication platforms on E lately!

For me this is a bold statement to make, simply because being in the PR and Communications industry, this stuff is supposed to tickle my fancy.... but actually it is 'freaking out my fancy'! It's all just a little too much for me at the moment! There- i said it! Don't judge me...i'm more of a face-to-face kinda girl... kapish? Nothing wrong with that. Or is there?

At the moment i have the following accounts:
email, gmail, blogger, twitter, facebook, skype and i sms from time to time. oh yes...and a cell number and a work telephone number and a home telphone number....and if my cellphone was hightech enough i probably would've been on Mixit too.

Thats A LOT of information platforms to keep updated! Not even mentioning taking in the stuff other people write about themselves! It's an information overload to me... do i really WANT to read your opinion on Climate Change? Do you really want to read my opinion on E-communication? Are you even reading this?! (thank you if you have made it so far!)

Don't get me wrong- i understand and accept that this is the information era and it is great! Today I had a conversation with a friend in the UK via Skype (for free!) But why is it that i need 12 platforms to keep myself connected? Isn't one or two enough? If we communicate via E the entire day, with say...the entire WORLD, would we still want to get together for a braai or a coffee to just...chat? old fashioned communication...with words...in each others' aura's!

I predict that there will come a time when will we become pretty much gatvol from communicating the entire day with the entire world, that at the end of the day....we just want to go home, turn off everything electronic and just give your brain a rest! Don't you think we are going to reach a point where we say- 'Enough is enough allready!! I dont want the entire world to know all my stuff, see all my pics and be in my face the whole time!'

And what will happen to the kids of today...the future of tomorrow? The so-called i-generation. The kids of today that doesn't know how to build a treehouse or ride a bike or play in the street untill your mom yells to get inside 'cause dinner's ready.
No- the i-generation kid is born with superb evolved thumbs to mixit quicker than they think. Thy cnt spel 2 sve thyr lfe bcuz 1 neds 2 mnimize wrdz 2 typ quikr...
Will they ever learn how to communicate with other people normally? What will happen to them?!

I will probably get used to the E- communication idea...eventually!
